Delaware State Police arrested a Wilmington man after he crashed his car into a Long Neck home.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020, at approximately 8:15 p.m., when troopers were dispatched to East Wind Drive, in Pot-Nets Creekside, for a red Mercedes Benz that had crashed into a residence. Upon contact with the driver, 54-year-old John S. Ruello, an odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensured.

According to police, Ruello was traveling south on Long Neck Road when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and traveled off the road and over an embankment before striking the home. He struck a deck, which collapsed and damaged a vehicle parked in the driveway. Ruello was transported to a hospital for a laceration to his head.

Ruello was charged with third-offense driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive in proper lane and direction. He was issued a $2,001 bond.
