Goldey-Beacom men's golf ends 4th at Hargett Invitational

Goldey-Beacom College’s 2019-20 men’s golf team ended fourth at the J. Ralph Hargett Invitational in Monroe, North Carolina.

Freshman Gonzalo Moreno, of Seville, Spain, followed his 73 and 71 from March 9 with a 73 at the invitational, ending tied for sixth with 217. It is the seventh top-10 finish in as many tournaments this academic year for Moreno, who entered the spring ranked third in the East Region according to GolfStat.

Freshman Hunter McGee, of Carp, Ontario, carded 76 to close tied for 19th with 224, and senior Braden Wheeler, of Carleton Place, Ontario, shot 76 to end tied for 24th with 226.

Senior Shea Murphy, of Wilmington, finished tied for 43rd with 237, and junior Corbin Babyak, of Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania, ended tied for 46th with 240.

Goldey-Beacom, ranked seventh in the region according to GolfStat, overall shot 305 to end the championship at 897. This is the best 54-hole total in program history, besting the 928 carded by the 2005-06 squad that won the NCAA East Regional.

That victory in 2006 was the first triumph in an NCAA Tournament event by any team in school history. The 2005-06 team has since been inducted into the Goldey-Beacom Athletics Hall of Fame and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Hall of Fame.

Goldey-Beacom also finished tops among the three competing CACC schools; Concordia was fifth with 903 and Wilmington closed seventh at 911.
