Goldey-Beacom College issued a statement Nov. 2 regarding the status of its fall and winter athletics teams for the 2020-21 academic year.

“The college has announced its indoor sports seasons — men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball — have been canceled,” read the statement. “The college also announced its fall sports originally intended to have their seasons played in the spring — men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s cross country and women’s cross country — also have been canceled.”

“The college’s spring sports — baseball, softball, men’s track & field and women’s track & field — and full-year sports — men’s golf [and] women’s tennis — have no changes to their schedules,” the statement continued.

“The decision to cancel our indoor winter and fall sports seasons was not a simple one,” said Goldey-Beacom Director of Athletics Tom Brennan. “I certainly feel for the student-athletes and coaches affected, but it is the correct decision for Goldey-Beacom College. We remain concerned regarding the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff during this period of uncertainty as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue to monitor the status of the COVID-19 virus including any possible effect with regard to spring-sport activity.”
