Goldey-Beacom boasts 10 teams with at least 3.0 GPA
Goldey-Beacom College congratulated the 10 of its teams recording at least a 3.0 GPA during the 2019-20 academic year.
That total puts the Lightning tied for seventh among the 14-team league in figures recently released by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Women’s tennis was tops at GBC with a 3.58 GPA, followed by softball, 3.39; women’s basketball, 3.35; women’s soccer, 3.35; men’s golf, 3.28; men’s cross country, 3.24; baseball, 3.22; men’s track and field, 3.09; volleyball, 3.08; and women’s cross country, 3.06.
These 10 teams make up the 83 in the conference out of 102 — 81% — who had a 3.0 GPA. Goldey-Beacom also is one of 11 schools in the league which had at least 50 percent of its teams record a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Among the individual successes, Rose Benjamin, of North East, Maryland, fellow women’s soccer junior Line Kristoffersen, of Bergen, Norway, and volleyball junior Lindsay Przywara, of Williamstown, New Jersey, all were tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-District a second straight year.
Benjamin and softball senior Dianna Gatto, of Jefferson, New Jersey, also were their sport’s winner of the CACC Top XVI Award for having the top GPA at the finals site of each conference tournament. The criteria was altered to still recognize the academic achievements of student-athletes since spring championships were canceled this year.
Goldey-Beacom also had 48 student-athletes picked to the CACC Academic Honor Roll and saw nine end the year with a cumulative 4.0 GPA. GBC also sports a 3.13 GPA among its student-athletes, higher than the college's GPA among nonstudent-athletes.
“The entire Goldey-Beacom community takes great pride in the academic achievements of our student-athletes,” said Senior Woman Administrator/Assistant Director of Athletics Bethann Burke, who handles academic affairs for the department. “The success attained this past year is a testament to the commitment of our student-athletes, support staff and faculty.”
