Delaware News Desk

The Delaware Department of Transportation’s contractor Mumford & Miller Concrete Inc. is scheduled to begin pedestrian improvements along Route 2/Kirkwood Highway from Route 7/Limestone Road to Duncan Road, Newark, starting Aug. 24 and continuing through late May 2021.

Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays with intermittent lane and shoulder closures along Route 2/Kirkwood Highway.

This project will provide a continuous pedestrian access route along northbound and southbound sides of Route 2/Kirkwood Highway in accordance with Americans with Disabilities Act standards and improve pedestrian safety. In 2015, a Pedestrian Safety Study Group recommended this location.

The work will consist of ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps, crosswalks, guardrails, lighting, signage and upgrade of signals for pedestrians to walk safely across Route 2/Kirkwood Highway.
