The Goldey-Beacom Lightning volleyball team opened play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 3-0 loss — 15-25, 17-25, 19-25 — to the Georgian Court Lions in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The Lightning could not withstand the nearly flawless play in the first set of the Lions, who had a .545 hitting percentage and one error over 22 attacks. GBC forced the home side into eight errors in the second set, but could only manage six kills. Georgian Court amassed a .412 hitting percentage to close the match.

Shayla Boyce, of Somerdale, New Jersey, totaled nine kills and six digs; fellow freshman Autumn Spendlove, of Las Vegas, Nevada, notched 13 assists and six digs; and senior Olivia Florence, of Glen Allen, Virginia, had 13 assists and five digs for the Lightning (2-8, 0-1 CACC).

Peggy Rosario notched 12 kills and a .365 hitting percentage, Trilby Kite dished 14 assists and Emily McCurley recorded 14 digs for the Lions, 4-3, 1-0.

Goldey-Beacom is home Sept. 11 against Chestnut Hill, starting at 7 p.m.
