The Greater Hockessin Area Development Association will sponsor a debate for US Senator on Monday, Aug. 20, 6:30 p.m. at the Hockessin Memorial Fire Hall, Yorklyn Road.

Candidates will answer prepared questions, and will be taking questions submitted in writing, time permitting.

Three Republican, including one from California, and two Democrat candidates will face off in the Sept. 6 Primary.

There will also are two additional candidates running in the General Election in November, one each from the Libertarian and Green parties.

Invited candidates include: Republicans Gene Truono, Rob Arlett, and Roque De La Fuente (filed from California, unlikely to attend); and Democrats Kerri Harris and incumbent Tom Carper.

Libertarian candidate Nadine Frost, and Green Party candidate Demitri Theodoropoulos are running unopposed in the Primary.

The winner of each Primary election on Sept. 9 will face off for the General Election on Nov. 6.

Organizers have prepared questions available for the candidates, and will be taking questions submitted in writing, from the floor, time permitting. Questions may also be emailed to for consideration and use at the Forum.

The debate will be moderated by the Hockessin Community Newspaper and the basic format will be as follows:

Opening Comments/Statement - 3 minutes each

Question & Answer Session - 90 minutes

Candidate's Closing Statement - 3 minutes each

There will be strict adherence to time limits so as to keep things moving along smoothly and to afford all candidates equal time to speak and address questions.
