The city of Newark’s 45th annual Turkey Trot 5K and 10K run/walk is set for Nov. 18 at Handloff Park, 1000 Barksdale Road.

The race, which benefits the James F. Hall Scholarship Fund, helps raise money to provide tuition assistance to youth who would otherwise be unable to participate in activities and programs through Newark Parks and Recreation Department.

There will be men's and women's divisions in five-year age increments for each run, which take place on a course certified by USA Track & Field with rolling hills through residential areas. The first 800 registrants will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to overall winners, as well as winners in age group categories for each run. Overall first-, second- and third-place awards will also be given for the 5K Walk.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The 10K will begin at 9 a.m., and the 5K will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Fees are $25 for advance registration through Nov. 16, $30 the day of the event for the 10K or 5K, or $30 and $35 for both.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians will be collecting coats that will be distributed to people in need throughout the area. Anyone interested in making a donation may bring coats in good condition the morning of the race.

Registration is available at or at the Newark Parks & Recreation Department, 220 S. Main St.
