The Delaware River and Bay Authority’s contractor, Mumford & Miller Concrete Inc. of Middletown, will pour concrete for the new overpass deck on Interstate 295 Southbound at the Route 13 interchange to Interstate 95/495 on April 11 and 12.
The concrete pouring process, which will begin in the morning and continue until late afternoon, will not impact traffic flow initially. However, when the concrete pouring and finishing work is completed at about 4 p.m., DRBA police will begin a rolling traffic slowdown through the construction area to enforce a speed limit of 40 mph, which will limit vibrations on the overpass and ensure that the concrete cures properly. Both through lanes will be open.
The left lane will be closed to traffic at about 7 p.m. April 11. The lane closure and rolling traffic slowdown will continue until 6 a.m. April 12, at which point both lanes will reopen for morning rush hour. Traffic delays are expected and motorists should allow for extra time to get to their destinations, particularly during the afternoon and evening time periods.
Weather permitting, concrete deck pouring sessions are also tentatively scheduled for April 18-19 and 25-26. Additional concrete deck pouring sessions may be required in May. The authority will issue additional notice for future deck pouring dates as they are scheduled to allow our customers enough time to plan accordingly.
Motorists are encouraged to stay alert in and around construction zones and obey posted speed limit signs. Travelers are reminded that DRBA police units will maintain an active presence in the construction area and will enforce motor vehicle laws. Fines for speeding and other moving violations are doubled in a construction zone.
