Here are three events to dive into this weekend.
1. Hailing from London, the VIDA Guitar Quartet unites four exceptional guitarists who share an affinity for chamber music.
After their debut at the World Youth Guitar Festival in 2007, the Quartet has quickly gained a reputation as one of the most dynamic guitar ensembles in the United Kingdom. This includes performances at UK venues such as Kings Place, the Sage, and other events like the London Guitar Festival, Bath International Guitar Festival, Dillington Guitar Festival, and Winchester Guitar Festival. VIDA will tour to the U.S. this month, making a stop in southern Delaware at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. 4th St., in Lewes at 2 p.m. on Jan. 16. COST $30. 2. Dover’s own Ecarté Dance Theatre will kick off the New Year with its annual Winter Concert. The show will feature modern dance and contemporary ballet via eight new works, displaying fresh moves from young and adult performers. The Winter Concert will kick into gear in the Education and Humanities Theatre at Delaware State University, 1200 N. Dupont Highway, in Dover at 7 p.m. on Jan. 16. COST $15 adults; $10 students and seniors. INFO Visit ecartedance.com or call 734-3965 or 674-4689.
3. Not every quartet can lay claim to winning 10 Grammy Awards. But the Manhattan Transfer can. The group won half of their 20 nominations and has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The Manhattan Transfer has remained an important part of musical history for over 40 years. Some of their hits include “The Boy from New York City” and “Operator.” You can see the Manhattan Quartet in Copeland Hall at the Grand Opera House, 818 N. Market St., in Wilmington at 8 p.m. on Jan. 16. COST $37 to $45. INFO Visit thegrandwilmington.org or call (800) 37-GRAND
