Playing at Doyle Field in Hockessin, the Lightning defeated Caldwell University of New Jersey by scores of 9-6 and 19-5 Monday.
The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team swept a doubleheader against Caldwell University of New Jersey by scores of 9-6 and 19-5 at Doyle Field in Hockessin Monday.
Senior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD) dominated the day by getting a school-record six RBI in the nightcap and also collecting four hits to tie the school record. He also had two doubles, one short of the team mark, and blasted his fourth homer of the year.
Sophomore Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) scored six runs in the finale to set a new school record with Brandon Hanson getting three hits. Senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) closed with three RBI.
Not to be lost in the offensive explosion was the pitching of Wilmington, Delaware freshman Trevor Jump (1-2), who struck out five over eight solid innings and just permitted a run and four hits for his first collegiate win.
Michael Hess (0-1) allowed eight runs – seven earned – and six hits over three innings for the Cougars. Mason Marino amassed three hits.
The opener saw junior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ), sophomore Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) and senior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) end with three hits apiece for the Lightning (4-14-1, 2-2 CACC). Marsden blasted a leadoff home run and finish with two RBI. Abdul, Collins and junior Calvin Clark (Millville, DE) also closed with two RBI.
Newark, Delaware freshman Andrew Emory (1-1) chalked up his first collegiate win, giving up just two hits over 2 2/3 scoreless frames. Senior Jake Trejo (Wauseon, OH) struck out three over two scoreless innings for his first save of the year.
Justin Picinic surrendered nine runs and 15 hits over six innings despite nine strikeouts for Caldwell (0-13, 0-4). Jack Zosulis closed with three hits.
