Delaware State Police said the woman's friends stopped in the center median to wait for traffic but the woman continued to cross the northbound lanes, where she was struck by a car.

Delaware State Police are investigating a collision in which a car hit a pedestrian Saturday night on Limestone Road near Goldey-Beacom College.

The incident happened at about 11:22 p.m., on Limestone Road south of the intersection with Stoney Batter Road.

A 20-year-old woman along with a group of friends crossed the southbound lanes of Limestone Road.

Her friends stopped in the center median but the 20-year-old woman continued to cross the northbound lanes, where she was struck by a 2017 Honda Accord traveling north on Limestone Road, police said.

The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The initial investigation determined that the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, not carrying a flashlight and not using a marked crosswalk, police said.

The driver of the Honda, a 70-year-old man from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, was properly restrained and wasn't injured.

The investigation is continuing.
