The Help Our Kids Radiothon was held Sept. 5-6 at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
For 24 hours — 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day — six Delmarva Broadcasting Co. radio stations broadcasted live from the hospital’s Anthony N. Fusco Sr. Atrium, sharing with their listeners stories of hope and courage from patients, patient families and clinicians. As the clock hit 6 p.m. Sept. 6, the total amount raised was announced: $320,192. This makes the eight-year total more than $1.9 million.
Donations came throughout the two-day event via a phone bank and online giving. There were also those who donated in person.
This year, the money benefits hospital-based services, which include the Child Life Department, the Division of Palliative Medicine and Pastoral Care at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
Delmarva Broadcasting Co. radio stations that participated this year are 101.7 WDEL-FM, 93.7 WSTW-FM, 97.7 Eagle-FM, 103.7 WXCY-FM, 101.3 Cool-FM and 105.9 Delaware-FM.
More than 150 volunteers, including Nemours Associates and community members, shared their time to make the Radiothon such a success.
