One person remains at large

Seven Wilmington residents have been arrested in connection with a string of June burglaries in Kent and New Castle counties, according to Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe.

An eighth individual, identified as Dakota Khiefrieder, of New Castle, is at large, Jaffe said.

All eight were involved in burglaries or attempted burglaries at local car dealerships and repair shops.

Troopers identified the suspects with the aid of the Wilmington Police Department, Jaffe added. All of the stolen vehicles have been recovered, she said.

There were six burglaries between June 16 and June 26, Jaffe said.

It was learned several of the suspects either attempted to or were successful in getting into the closed businesses by damaging the outside of the buildings. Once inside, they’d steal vehicle keys and then take the vehicles.

The burglaries included:

- An attempted break-in June 16 at the CAR shop at 2205 Mitch Road, Wilmington;

- An attempted burglary June 17 at the Major Motors at 2010 Mitch Road, Wilmington.

- A successful June 18 break-in at the C&D Auto Sales at 4655 Dupont Highway, Townsend. A blue 2001 Chrysler 300 was taken as well as keys, temporary registrations, and a laptop computer.

- An attempted June 19 burglary at the CMJ Motors at 4324 Dupont Highway, Townsend.

- A June 19 burglary at Intellicar, at 375 S. Gateway Blvd, Dover, where keys and key fobs were taken. The burglars also stole a silver 2016 Volkswagen Passat, a white 2015 Ford Explorer XLT, a gray 2015 Ford Fusion, and a gray 2014 Nissan Pathfinder from the lot.

- A June 26 break-in at Willy Auto Repair at 416 S. Maryland Ave, Wilmington. The burglars took several keys and then stole a silver 1998 Lexus ES300, a blue 2007 Subaru Legacy, a black 2005 Mercedes Benz C2, and a green 2004 Nissan Quest from the lot.

The charges include: burglary third degree, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, attempt to commit burglary third degree, possession of burglary tools, theft of a motor vehicle, theft $1,500 or greater, conspiracy second degree, theft under $1500, criminal mischief over $1000, and criminal mischief under $1,000.

The following individuals have been arrested for the incidents occurring at the CAR Shop, Major Motors, C&D Auto, CMJ Motors and Intellicar:

- Devante Burton, 24; committed to the Young Correctional Institution on a $25,000 secured bond.

- Elijah Pennewell, 16, arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.

- Daquane Woodruff, 20; committed to the Young Correctional Institution on a $27,000 secured bond.

- Jalen Jackson, 20; committed to the  Young Correctional Institution on a $29,500 secured bond.

- Charles Bultron, 14; (C&D Auto incident only) - arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.

The following have been arrested for the incident occurring at the Willy Auto Repair Shop:

- Elijah Pennewell, 16, arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.

- Mercedes Pennewell, 17, arraigned before Family Court and released to a guardian.

- Jahlier Curtis, 15; arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Ferris School on a $5,000 secured bond.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Khiefrieder,18, regarding this incident, Jaffe said.
