Annual comic giveaway makes for fun times at local participating vendors

No, Aubrey Plaza did not show up Saturday at Capt. Blue Hen Comics in Newark for Free Comic Book Day, missing out on a “Parks and Recreation” reunion with a tiny hose cosplaying as Li’l Sebastian.

Or did she?

“I don’t know – there’s lots of masks here. That could be her right over there,” said CBH owner Joe Murray, pointing out a costumed guest whose face was covered. “Maybe there will be a big unveil, and viola!”

Murray and Crew spent a few days tweeting Wilmington native and “Parks and Rec” star Plaza, hoping to convince her to stop by and say hello.

Murray also spent most of his time photobombing guests’ pictures with the horse, actually named Charm and on loan from a local farm.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event that puts a free special title comic book in the hand of every guest.

Specialty vendors, cosplay groups, authors and artists, food trucks, and pop culture reference by the score rounded out the day’s events at CBH – one of a handful of area stores to participate in the annual giveaway.
