The crime happened Monday at about 3:12 p.m., in the parking lot of the Acme Market at 2098 Naamans Road, Wilmington.

Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking that happened Monday afternoon at a Wilmington-area supermarket.

The crime occurred at about 3:12 p.m., in the parking lot of the Acme Market at 2098 Naamans Road, Wilmington.

The victim, an 84-year-old Wilmington man, parked his vehicle and entered the store to purchase groceries. After leaving the Acme, the victim left his grocery cart on the sidewalk near the entrance/exit of the store and planned to drive up to load them.

As the victim walked to his car he was approached by a white male wearing a dark hooded jacket who asked him for money. After speaking with the man, the victim drove to the store to load his groceries. As he loaded the groceries, the suspect entered the vehicle, locked the doors, and drove away.

Police located the vehicle traveling on southbound I-95 south near Philadelphia. In coordination with the Delaware State Police, the Pennsylvania State Police stopped the vehicle on northbound Route 452 and placed the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as Sean E. Haines, 46, of Wilmington, was arraigned in Pennsylvania and committed to the Delaware County Prison in Pennsylvania on $50,000 cash bond while awaiting extradition back to Delaware.

Haines also has active warrants for first-degree car jacking in Delaware.
