Emily Hurst was selected to serve as the volleyball ambassador for the 2018 Easterseals/CAI Volleyball Challenge, which will take place March 2-4 at William Penn High School, 713 E. Basin Road, New Castle.

The Volleyball Challenge is a family-friendly, three-day event that raises money for Easterseals to serve children and adults with disabilities.

Hurst, of Hockessin, was nervous when she first walked through the doors of Easterseals, and her mom, Julia Hurst, watched her grow into a more independent woman because of the skills she is learning at Easterseals.

“Easterseals has made Emily more confident, independent and assertive. She communicates more and expresses herself more. She has learned to approach people if she wants to communicate,” said Julia. “It makes me feel good when she comes home and signs ‘friends’ and ‘dance.’ This is one of the ways that she lets me know that she had a good day.”
