Goldey-Beacom senior outfielder Raul Perez-Duran, of Trenton, New Jersey, was named a Player to Watch and senior outfielder/pitcher Jay Smith, of Zeeland, Michigan, was tabbed a Newcomer to Watch, by “Collegiate Baseball.”

Perez-Duran returns as one of the Lightning’s key players after being named second team All-CACC a season ago. He closed 27th in the CACC with a .299 batting average, 38th with a .389 slugging percentage, 25th with 43 hits, second on the team with 39 2/3 innings pitched, eighth with 14 RBI, tied for third with five steals and fifth with 19 runs.

Smith comes in after batting .310 a season ago for Tiffin College with a .458 slugging percentage and a .402 on-base percentage to go with 52 hits, 10 doubles, three home runs and 33 RBI. He also was a first team all-conference pick in 2016 for Kalamazoo Community College and tabbed All-Region XII.

Goldey-Beacom will begin its season Feb. 17 with a doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne.
