The incident happened at about 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 in the parking lot of the Community Plaza Shopping Center at the intersection of Christiana Road (Route 273) and Airport Road, New Castle.

Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted purse snatching which left a 65-year-old New Castle woman hospitalized.

The incident happened at about 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 in the parking lot of the Community Plaza Shopping Center at the intersection of Christiana Road (Route 273) and Airport Road, New Castle.

The woman had just left Walgreen's and was at the driver’s side of her vehicle, in the process of unlocking the door.

Before she could enter her vehicle, a green SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban, pulled up alongside her. The passenger reached out the window and grabbed the strap of the woman's purse. The driver of the SUV accelerated, and the woman was dragged to the ground, police said.

The woman held onto her purse.

She suffered head and hip injuries for which she was transported to the Christiana Hospital for treatment, police said.

The vehicle fled on Christiana Road west towards Newark.

The suspects were described as black males in their early 20s, clean cut, and the driver was possibly wearing a black bandana on his head.
