Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, 5105 Kennett Pike, will be illuminated with projected images Sept. 25 for the Light Art Grand Tour USA, a documentary on 50 landmarks in 50 states.
The tour will begin in Delaware and will culminate with exhibitions in museums and monuments in the U.S. and Switzerland in 2020. The team will travel to Virginia on Sept. 26 to film Mount Vernon.
Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter will transform the museum's exterior with light art that reflects iconic images of Winterthur. He and his team of experts will use a series of projectors to display 20 to 30 images, which will be photographed and filmed for the exhibition, a documentary and a book. The project will be unveiled in Switzerland in 2020, after which the exhibition will travel to museums and other landmarks throughout the U.S.
Hofstetter said he undertook the project, which is being sponsored by a variety of Swiss government and tourism entities and private organizations, to highlight the importance of the institutions too the world and the friendship between Switzerland and the U.S. Because of space limitations, attendance at the light show Sept. 25 will be available to media and a limited number of members and guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required to firstname.lastname@example.org or 888-4803.
