Seven-year-old Natalie VanDzura and her grandfather, George Taylor, attended the Delaware Police Chiefs’ Council’s monthly meeting Sept. 12 to donate gift cards from WAWA and Dunkin’ Donuts to all Delaware police agencies.
After the death of Delaware State Police Cpl. Stephen Ballard in April, Natalie told her mom she wanted to do something for police officers to show how much she appreciates what they do for the communities that they serve.
With the help of her family, Natalie started a lemonade stand to raise money with the intent of purchasing gift cards to be donated to law enforcement officers. Natalie’s mother, Carri, posted on Facebook how Natalie wanted to do raise funds to show her support for law enforcement. The community rallied behind Natalie’s efforts, and she was able to raise $1,555, which resulted in 311 gift cards.
