  • Guardians of the Galaxy retained the top spot at the box office over the Labor Day holiday weekend, which overall was the second-worst weekend for ticket sales of 2014, Box Office Mojo reports. The Marvel Studios film earned $16.3 million in its fifth week in theaters to become the highest-grossing film of 2014.
    Holding on to the No. 2 spot was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with $11.7 million, and If I Stay held steady at No. 3 with $9.2 million.

    The found footage horror flick As Above/So Below opened in fourth place with $8.3 million, edging out Let's Be Cops, which dropped a spot to No. 5 with $8.2 million.
    The November Man, the new action film starring Pierce Brosnan, had a soft debut, finishing in sixth place with $7.6 million.
    At No. 7 was When the Game Stands Tall, which earned $5.6 million in its second week in theaters.
    Rounding out the Top 10 were The Giver (No. 8, $5.2 million), The Hundred-Foot Journey (No. 9, $4.6 million) and The Expendables 3 (No. 10, $3.5 million).
