  • Delaware State Troopers conducting death investigation near Kirkwood Highway

  • The Delaware State Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was found in a wooded area behind the BJ’s Wholesale Club, 2131 Kirkwood Highway, west of Elsmere.
    The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 29, at approximately 2:30 p.m. as a landscaper working near the wooded area behind the BJ’s found the decomposing body.
    Preliminary investigation indicated that the unidentified, partially clothed, decomposing remains were located approximately 20o feet into the wooded area behind the BJ’s Wholesale Club. The age or gender of the remains has not been determined at this time.
    Troopers were able to access the remains and worked in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to remove the body from the scene and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, and for positive identification.
    Delaware State Police Detectives continue their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
