  • Defending girls’ soccer state champions No. 2 Padua Academy advanced to the 2014 championships game after taking care of No. 3 Sussex Tech 6-0 on Friday afternoon.
Padua used three goals in each half to steamroll their way back to the state title game. Freshman Arryana Daniels led the way for the Pandas scoring a hat trick, while Karlina Panella, Molly Drach and Amy Horney added goals for Padua in the victory.
At the start of the game, both teams seemed evenly matched as neither team could find the back of the net early. However, Daniels would score the first of her three goals in the 28th minute of the first half, thanks to a nice feed from Kristen Brady.
Just three minutes later, Padua would double-up their lead when Panella scored in the 31st minute to give the Pandas a two goal lead. With the half winding down, Panella set up the first of her two assists on the day finding Drach for the goal that made it 3-0.
Padua wasted little time pulling away from the Ravens, scoring in the 41st minute of the second half on Daniels second goal of the game. Six minutes later Daniels registered her hat trick on Panella’s second helper of the game in the 47th minute. Horney added the final goal of the day at the 68th mark to give Padua their 6-0 lead.
While the Pandas’ offense was electric, defense was the story on Friday night. Padua allowed just four Sussex Tech shots, all saved by Abigail Boudart who registered the shut out.
The Padua offense swarmed Sussex Tech’s defense and standout goalkeeper Leslie Fazio who did all she could to keep the Ravens in the game making 18 saves off of 24 Padua shots.
While Padua was putting the finishing touches on their victory over Sussex Tech, No. 4 Caesar Rodney was eliminating last year’s runner up, No. 1 Charter 2-1 at Caravel Academy setting up this year’s final.
Padua and Caesar Rodney will meet Monday night with the Division I State Championship on the line. The game will be a part of a championship doubleheader at Smyrna High School, the first game for the Division II crown between No. 1 Archmere Academy vs. No. 2 Caravel Academy starts at 5:00 p.m. with Padua/CR to follow.
