Charter School of Wilmington scored four runs in the sixth inning to secure a 7-2 victory over Indian River on Wednesday afternoon.

Charter School of Wilmington advanced to its first-ever DIAA softball state tournament semifinal round after defeating Indian River 7-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Charter scored two runs early in the contest, and after Indian River scored on a hit and two errors in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1, added their own run in the bottom of the fifth to go on top 3-1.

The Lady Force then took control of the game by scoring four more times in the bottom of the sixth to secure the playoff victory.

The Lady Indians rallied in the top of the seventh, and scored one run before Charter pitcher Meghan Cowan closed the door on the game and the IR season.

“Meghan did a good job today in the circle, and our defense provided nice support in the field,” said Charter Coach Eileen Voltz.

The Indians wrapped up the 2014 season with a 13-7 record including the playoffs.

The 16-4 Force will play Caravel Academy Thursday afternoon in one of the semi-final games. The site and time has not yet been determined.
