Incident occurred at the parking lot of El Pique, 2110 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere
A Wilmington man was apprehended shortly after committing a robbery and carjacking in the parking lot of El Pique, 2110 Kirkwood Highway. The incident took place Sunday at 7:30 a.m. Two Elsmere men, one 25 years old, the other 42, were talking in the parking lot and where approached by a white male, later identified as Charles Jaegers, 50. Jaegers placed one hand inside of a jacket pocket, making it appear like he had a handgun, and demanded money from both men. After they both turned over cash, Jaegers entered the 25-year-old victim's running vehicle and drove away. A description of the vehicle, a 1997 Ford F150, was broadcast by the Wilmington Police Department's dispatch center. Approximately 10 minutes after the carjacking, a Wilmington police officer spotted the truck parked in the 1500 block of West 4th Street. When the officer approached the vehicle Jaegers exited and fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended. Jaegers was transported to Troop 6 where he was charged with two counts of robbery first degree and one count of carjacking. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $180,000 cash bail.
