Jeffrey Wilkinson, 28, of Wilmington, arrested for first degree robbery, other charges
A Wilmington man was apprehended last week shortly after he robbed the Rita’s Water Ice at 3804 Kirkwood Highway.
The incident happened at 9:37 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, when Jeffrey Wilkinson, 28, ran into the business through the back door wearing a ski mask and brandishing a knife. He threatened a 17-year-old female employee while taking money from the tip jar and a cash till. He then fled on foot.
Responding Troopers canvassed the area and located Wilkinson smoking marijuana in an open-access building in the Red Clay Creek Apartments. Wilkinson was taken into custody, and a search of his apartment resulted in the recovery of evidence linking him to the robbery.
Wilkinson was charged with robbery first degree, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $45,000 secured bail.
