  • The Lady Panthers from Polytech had a solid 9-10 season this year, and earned their first berth into the DIAA State Tournament claiming the #20 seed.
Unfortunately, their time in the tournament didn’t last long as they were eliminated by #13 Charter School of Wilmington 48-27 on Tuesday night.
In the first half, Charter broke out to an early ten-point lead which they would keep at the half-time break.
The Panthers did their best to keep pace with Charter in the third quarter but entered the final stanza trailing by 12.
In the final quarter, Charter used a 19-point fourth quarter to overtake Polytech for good.
Senior guard Kylie Shivery led the way for Charter scoring a game-high 15 points in the victory. Meanwhile, Polytech’s Sarah Hillman led the way for the Panthers scoring team-high 14 points in the losing effort.
While it’s a bitter ending to the Panthers’ season, they can come away with a lot of positives. Not only did they clinch their first ever berth in the state tournament, but a handful of their players will be returning. While not many of them received a ton of playing time due to four seniors being on the team, they were along for the ride and did the work in practice that helped the team be successful.
The Panthers will lose some key parts, including Hillman, Lonnica Jenkins-Hilliard, Vanessa Hatton, and Victoria Hanhauser. However, remember names like Kyra Black, Sabrina Tilley, Kelly Winters, and Fatima Edwards, all who will be the face of the team come next year.
For the 15-5 Charter Force they now move on to take on #4 St. Elizabeth (14-5) on Thursday, February 27 starting at 7:00 p.m.
