Salesianum defeated William Penn, then lost to Smyrna in the state dual meet championships held Tuesday evening at Smyrna High School.

Salesianum wrestlers advanced to the semi-finals of the DIAA state dual wrestling championships on Tuesday evening before falling to eventual champion Smyrna 32-22. The Sals faced an uphill battle after losing a close match to the Eagles last week.
Smyrna, led by all-state wrestlers Brent Fleetwood and Tyler Carney, won its first four matches before the Sals got untracked. In the middle weight rounds, Lou Fedele (152) defeated Elijah Hutchinson 2-1, then Dane Diksa (160) edged Josh Hutchinson 4-3. After Smyrna's Ronnie Wuest beat Joe Miller 4-2 at 170 pounds, the Sals then won four straight matches, as Daulton Gregory, Anthony Mancini, Garrett Miller and Riley Montgomery gave Sallies a slim 22-21 lead. But Smyrna's young and talented light weight wrestlers took care of business, winning the last three matches, and providing the Eagles a trip to the finals against Caesar Rodney.
Smyrna, the defending D-1 champions, received a first round bye. In a D-1 opening round match, Salesianum defeated William Penn 35-24.
