Division One defending state champion Smyrna High School attempts to win back-to-back titles Tuesday evening when the Eagles host the DIAA Dual Meet State Wrestling Championships. The six-team fields in Division I and Division II will square off at Smyrna High School.
Smyrna was awarded the top seed in Division One, based on their 9-1 record. The Eagles only team loss was to Maryland powerhouse McDonough High School.
Milford earned the top seed in Division Two, while defending D-2 champion, St. Georges, was given the number three seed this year.
The first round begins at 3:30 p.m., the second round at 5:30 p.m. and the championships at 7:30 p.m.
Here's a breakdown of the matchups:
In Division I, third-seeded Caesar Rodney (10-2) will meet sixth-seeded Polytech (8-4) and fourth-seeded Salesianum (10-3) will take on fifth-seeded William Penn (10-3) in the first round. The lowest-seeded winner from the first round will wrestle No. 1 Smyrna (9-3) in the semifinals.
The highest-seeded winner from the first round will take on No. 2 Cape Henlopen (11-1) in the other semifinal.
In Division II, third-seeded St. Georges (8-4) will go against sixth-seeded Sanford (5-5) and fourth-seeded Delaware Military Academy (10-2) will meet fifth-seeded Lake Forest (9-4) in the first round.
The lowest-seeded winner from the first round will wrestle No. 1 Milford (10-1) in the semifinals. The highest-seeded winner from the first round will meet No. 2 Hodgson (11-1) in the other semifinal.
The first-round matches will begin at 120 pounds in both divisions. Semifinal matches start at 126 pounds, and championship matches begin at 132 pounds.
