On Sunday, Jan. 12, at approximately 11 a.m., New Castle County Police were called to the Christiana Medical Center Emergency Department for the report of an abuse to an elderly female. The officer arrived on scene and learned the 79 year-old victim had been transported to the hospital by ambulance. The officer then learned the victim was unable to care for herself and relied heavily on her son, Stephen.
The investigation revealed that the victim had been mistreated and sustained injuries to her upper body. Adult Protective Services had been contacted as well as a family member.
On Monday, Jan. 13, officers responded to Stephen’s residence where he was taken into custody without incident and transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters.
Stephen Myers was charged with intentional abuse, neglect, exploitation or mistreatment of an infirmed adult and assault in the second degree. He was released on $8,000 unsecured bond and issued a no contact order.
