  • Two people suffered minor injuries in the apartment building fire in Pike Creek that started late Thursday night, just before midnight.
The Mill Creek Fire Company was alerted to the fire shortly before midnight at Woodlea Apartments in the 5500 block of Fairmont Drive, said Robert L. Fox, Chief Deputy Fire Marshal.
Firefighters arrived and found a fire in a first floor apartment. Several other fire companies were called to assist. The blaze was extinguished just after midnight, early Friday morning.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office were called to the scene and have determined the fire to be accidental, caused by smoking materials igniting combustible material, Fox said. The fire was supported by the use of oxygen in the apartment.
Fire and smoke damage is estimated at $25,000, Fox said.
Two residents were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation by Emergency Medical Service personnel and New Castle County Paramedics. The victims were then transported to Christiana Hospital, Fox said.
