Salesianum alumni will play against St. Mark's grads in a benefit ice hockey game later this month.
The puck will drop to benefit DFRC, Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizen with intellectual disABILITIES, with the sixth installment of Hockey for a Cause on Friday, December 27 in the University of Delaware Gold Ice Arena. This year's contest will feature the alumni from Salesianum School facing off against the alumni from Saint Mark's High School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
Salesianum head coach Brian LeBlanc and Saint Mark's head coach Bob Teeven decided to reach out to graduates of their programs in an effort to give Hockey for a Cause more of a "homecoming feel" as opposed to a typical high school game. Both LeBlanc and Teeven will coach for their respective schools.
"We felt like this could serve as a reunion for all years and all ages for guys who played hockey at Saint Mark's or Salesianum," said LeBlanc. "That includes Coach Teeven's and my own son who will be representing their alma maters in the game."
"Our alumni enjoy coming together to celebrate the great ice hockey rivalry of our schools, but most importantly, they understand we are coming together to support the DFRC Blue-Gold Program that assists Delawareans with intellectual challenges," added Teeven.
The game will be broadcast live on Sports Radio 1290 AM The Ticket on air and online (www.1290theticket.com) starting at 7 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $5 or online at dfrc.org.
Part of the constantly expanding events for DFRC supporters, this is the latest endeavor in the months leading up to the 59th DFRC Blue-Gold AlléStar Football Game that will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the University of Delaware Football Stadium. All proceeds benefit programs for people who are intellectually challenged through grants provided by DFRC.
