Delaware State Police have charged a 23-year-old male graduate student at Goldey-Beacom College with the rape of a female student which allegedly occurred at a Goldey-Beacom College apartment early Sunday morning.
The incident happened Nov. 10 at about 3 a.m.
The 18-year-old female student met Carlos E. Bastardo, 23, an acquaintance, at his apartment in the Jay W. Miller Hall located on the campus of Goldey-Beacom College off of Limestone Road in the Pike Creek area.
The victim said Bastardo began to make unwanted sexual advances toward the victim and sexually assaulted her in the apartment, police said. The victim was able to free herself from Bastardo and fled the apartment. She went to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation and contacted State Police.
Bastardo was found on the Goldey-Beacom College campus by State Police and taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with second-degree rape without consent and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $120,000 cash bond, police said.
Detectives continue to investigate this incident and in consideration of the victim, only limited information will be released.
