The next local fundraiser for the American Lung Association will be the Fight for Air Climb on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Wilmington.
Individually or in teams, participants can walk or run up 21 floors of the building at 1201 N. Market St., to benefit the fight against lung diseases.
The event offers an extra challenge for "kilo climbers" – the chance to try the 21-floor climb twice, equal to about 1,000 steps.
There will also be a "first responders challenge" where teams of first responders will make the climb in full gear.
Registration will be held at 7 a.m., and climbing will start at 8:30 a.m., with the kilo climbers first, then the elite individuals, then open climbing for those walking at their own pace. The fourth group will be the climb teams, and then the first responders challenge will be held.
Awards will be presented for the best times in several categories.
A post-race party will start after the first climbers are done and will last until 12:30 p.m.
Complimentary parking, courtesy of McConnell Johnson Real Estate, will be available in the garage beneath the building on Market Street, between 12th and 13th streets.
