A dump truck turned on its side and spilled sand on Lancaster Pike near Hockessin Thursday afternoon, affecting traffic for more than two hours. No one was injured in the crash.
The accident occurred at 1:58 p.m., said Delaware State Police Cpl.1 John Day.
The 2005 Packard dump truck was traveling north on Lancaster Pike, approaching the intersection with Newport Gap Pike. Due to a mechanical failure that happened as the truck encountered a slight turn in the roadway, the load of sand shifted and the truck overturned, Day said.
The driver, a 31-year-old man from Fawn Grove, Pa., was not injured and was not cited, Day said.
Traffic was affected for about two-and-a-half hours as the crash was cleared.
