  • The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal accident in which a pickup truck hit two teens who were crossing a Newark road at 12:30 a.m. this morning, Oct. 18.
Police said Linwood A. McLean, 48, of Bear, was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger northbound on South College Road (Route896) approaching GBC Drive in the right lane.
Ethan P. Connolly, 19, of Medway, Mass., and Daniel A. Bernstein, 18, of New York, N.Y., were walking east across the northbound lanes of South College Road at GBC Drive.
The pickup had a green light, proceeded through the intersection, and struck the two teens.
Connolly, who was hit with the front right side of the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Bernstein, who was struck by the left side of the truck and side mirror, was transported by emergency medical services to Christiana Medical Center where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Connolly and Bernstein weren't crossing at a fully-marked crosswalk and weren't carrying a flashlight, police said.
The driver of the pickup, McLean, was not injured in the accident. He was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
South College Road was closed at GBC Drive for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation into this incident.
