Halloween in Hockessin is approaching! That was the main topic at the Hockessin Business Association meeting on Tuesday night.
Charles Shattuck from Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop, who was the meeting's sponsor and provided the refreshments, talked about his lead role in the festivities. His business, along with over 30 Hockessin businesses, will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
He will host hawks, owls, and possibly a vulture at his store this Saturday, Oct. 19 for anyone who is interested.
Also part of the festivities is Gateway Garden Center's Jack O' Lantern Jamboree on Friday, Oct. 25 and the Howling Hounds Pet Parade on Sunday, Oct. 27. The Jamboree begins at dusk, and the parade begins at 1 p.m. from the corner of Yorklyn Road and Route 41. Local businesses and artists will be carving pumpkins Thursday for the public to see at the Jamboree on Friday.
Representatives from the Center for the Creative Arts (which will be a participating organization in Halloween in Hockessin Oct. 26) will also be having their 2013 Artisans Show Nov. 8, 9 and 10.
Business map changes
Another issue discussed was the revision to the Hockessin map, which will be released by the HBA in January 2014 at various points of interest. Members seemed to prefer their businesses to be bolded in green as opposed to about four other styles. The map is divided into five areas: Eat, Shop, Experience, Service, and Parks.
