" With great risks come even greater rewards". That is an easy phrase to say but difficult to achieve. Enter Lois Parker, a 60-something with absolute zero experience in producing. But her passion was '50's and '60's rock n roll. Lois has a steel trap memory of all the great acts and is friends with a number of the legendary performers.

Earlier in the year she and husband Ray took the major financial step to rent The Grand for a night to showcase her friend Jimmy Clanton, whose 1950's pompadour rivaled only that of Bobby Rydell, headlining the show on October 5 at The Grand.

There were no guarantees with the first show; no refund should no one line up at the boxoffice. Yet, it  was almost a sell out and it certainly was a 'Grand Success', both for Lois and hubby Ray AND the management at our state's Center for Performing Arts. This musical genre brought a lot of new faces through the massive double doors.

Jay Siegel & The Tokens ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight") was my favorite among the 8 or so groups. The Coda Band, a professional group who absolutely have committed to memory every teeny bopper song was a reliable and talented backup.

Siegel became a producer himself, making tunes for The Chiffons, one of the groups performing this weekend.  Their catalogue includes "One Fine Day", My Boyfriends Back", "He's So Fine". They will be joined by The Capri's ("There's A Moon Out Tonight" - something I did in college several times); The Coasters ("Searching" and "Poison Ivy", "Get An Ugly Girl to Marry You" - sage advice I did not take...twice!). One of the great lines is "Hey, man, I saw your wife last night. Man, is she uuuuuugly!" The reply: "Yeah, man, but she sure can cook!"

Bobby Rydell will take over completely for Act 2.
