CIRKOPOLIS - October 1 -6

Established in Quebec, the same cultural fountainhead that gave the world Cirque du Soleil, CIRKOPOLIS arrives in Wilmington after an extended European tour.

This imaginative fantasy concept is a world of circus, dance, theatre and music set in a stern and imposing city. Giant gears and dark portals symbolize a mechanism that crushes individuality, encircling gloom and Orwellian 1984-ish foreboding.

Twelve acrobats and multidisciplinary artists rebel against monotony, reinvent themselves and challenge the limits of this oppressive factory-city, Cirkopolis.

Fantasy defies reality; the veil of anonymity and solitude is lifted and replaced by bursts of color and supreme athleticism.

“Cirkopolis was imagined as a crossroads" states co-director Jeannot Painchaud, "between imagination and reality, between individuality and community, between limits and possibilities."

The actor/athletes do things that the audience does in fact consider beyond the limits of physical impossibilities.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY -  October 29 - November 3

You remember the mind-imprinting musical riff of the long running TV show, "Da Da Da Da dum dum!, Da Da Da Da Dum Dum!" That is the clarion call for Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma and fairly bizarre offspring Puggsley and Wednesday to enter stage right. Oh yes, one cannot the funereal Lurch! Created by comic strip legend Charles Addams, the show was macabre, witty, creepy, kooky enchanting and well, just plain weird. Ergo, it translated fabulously well to Broadway!

WEST SIDE STORY  -  December 3 - 8

In Aisle Say's opinion, the greatest dancing on Broadway EVER. We all know it was adapted from Romeo and Juliet. Ah, the genius creators of this watershed musical: composer Leonard Bernstein, lyricist Stephen Sondheim (his Broadway  debut) and director/choreographer Jerome Robbins.

Premiering in 1957, this show was a moment in time. The focus on social problems was a turning point in American musical theatre. This was the Golden Age of Broadway.  It lost out to THE MUSIC MAN for the Tony Award for Best Musical, but went on to win 10 Academy Awards out of 11 nominations for the movie. "Maria"?, "Somewhere"?, "Tonight"? Oh my gosh.

When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way. Case closed.

Dining offers are also available in the Green Room and Lobby Lounge at the Hotel du Pont. The Hotel and the Theatre are celebrating their centennial year.
