  • The second annual Wilmington Burger Battle attracted 16 competing restaurants and a hungry crowd at Twin Lakes Brewing Company in Greenville on Saturday – all to benefit the Ministry of Caring's Emmanuel Dining Room.
    In the thrilling grilling contest, Redfire Grill & Steakhouse won the critics' choice trophy, while Union City Grille was crowned the people' choice champion.
    Runners up for critics' choice were Nage and Union City Grille in a second-place tie, BBC Tavern in third, with finalists Buckley's Tavern and Ernest & Scott Taproom.
    People's choice challengers were Redfire Grill & Steakhouse in second place, and Chelsea Tavern in third.
    Other competitors helping the cause were 2 Fat Guys, Cantwell's Tavern, Jake's Wayback Burgers, Kid Shelleen's, Kildare's Irish Pub, Pizza By Elizabeths, Ulysses Gastropub, World Cafe Live at the Queen, and Home Grown Café.
    The final fundraising total hasn't been announced yet, but Burger Battle co-founder JulieAnne Cross said, "We well exceeded last year's $4,200 donation to Emmanuel Dining Room."
