Day Three, Sunday, August 11
Mid-Atlantic (Piedmont, Hockessin, Del.) 8, Ohio Valley 2
The Piedmont Bulls, representing the Mid-Atlantic in the 2013 Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md., started off Day 3 of the tournament with an 8-2 win over Ohio Valley.
Michael Dellose cracked a 2-run single in the first inning to get things rolling for Mid-Atlantic, who also kept Ohio Valley off the scoreboard, with just 2 hits, over the first 5 innings of play.
“I think we started hitting which is something we typically do,” said Mid-Atlantic Manager Chris Lougheed. “Last game we ran into a really good pitcher and struggled a bit with the bats, but we took some extra BP today and it really paid off.”

Peidmont opened up the tournament on Friday with a 1-0 win over Harford County. Seth Bialecki led the way for Piedmont on the mound, striking out 7 Harford batters while allowing only 1 hit in the ball-game.
Bialecki not only contributed on the mound, but scored the only run of the game behind a Brian Gilardi RBI single in the third inning. Gilardi would take over for Bialecki on the mound after four innings to earn the save.
“It being the first game that we’ve played in the tournament, I think that our nerves were high but in particular our two pitchers came out and pitched spectacular,” said Mid-Atlantic Coach John Bialecki. “I think there was one hit given up by them in the entire game and it was shutout. Tight game the whole way but certainly our pitching was a big reason for the win and then the defense behind them supported them well, so it’s great to get the tournament started with a win.”
