  • Delaware 87ers to celebrate "87ers Day" in Wilmington & Newark on Aug. 8

  • The Delaware 87ers today announced that the team will celebrate "87ers Day" on Wednesday, August 7 (8/7) with a series of public events, pep rallies, giveaways and promotions concentrated in Wilmington and Newark, Del. Fans throughout the state will be able to participate in the day through social media contests, which will be announced in further detail at www.sevens.com, the team's Twitter account, @sevens, and on the team's official Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/Delaware87ers.
    "I look forward to interacting with future Sevens fans and season ticket holders during 87ers Day," said Delaware 87ers President Aaron Moszer. "The series of events will be a great way for residents and businesses in Delaware to grow familiar with our brand, get their hands on team merchandise and have some fun as we tip off what we hope will become an annual tradition throughout the state."
    Delaware Governor Jack A. Markell has issued a proclamation that August 7 be "87ers Day," urging Delaware citizens to celebrate the Sevens coming to the state.
    "We embrace the 87ers as a new part of Delaware's sports history and promise a hometown spirit of support as the Sevens build a new basketball legacy here," said Governor Markell. "We'll be rooting for them to win every game they play!"

    9:00-9:30 A.M.: WELCOME TO WORK AT WILMINGTON AMTRAK STATION

    Members of the Sevens street team, which includes dancers and dunkers, will hand out Delaware 87ers T-shirts and posters to fans as they head into work.
    12:00-12:30 P.M.: PUBLIC PEP RALLY AT RODNEY SQUARE

    U.S. Senator Chris Coons (Del.), Wilmington Mayor Dennis P. Williams, Delaware 87ers President Aaron Moszer and Philadelphia 76ers CEO Scott O'Neil will speak to fans about the Sevens' inaugural season in a pep rally emceed by Comcast SportsNet's Sixers Television Analyst Malik Rose. Members of the Sevens street team, including dancers and dunkers, will attend, along with the Wilmington Blue Rocks' mascot Rocky Bluewinkle. Fans can receive free Delaware 87ers T-shirts and posters from members of the Sevens street team. Face painters, clowns and a DJ will also be at the pep rally.
    2:00 P.M.: FREE RITA'S WATER ICE FOR FIRST 87 FANS

    Rita's Water Ice will offer free water ice in the Sevens' colors – red (cherry), white (lemon) and blue (blueberry) – to the first 87 fans, starting at 2:00 p.m.

    Newark Mayor Vance A. Funk, III, Delaware 87ers President Aaron Moszer, Comcast SportsNet's Sixers Television Analyst Malik Rose and members of the Sevens street team will ride a fire truck from Station 8 in Newark, Del., down Main Street. Fans are encouraged to join in the festivities, which will include giveaways of T-shirts and posters.
