  • A 23-year-old Smyrna man has been arrested on gun charges after he allegedly shot himself in the foot Friday night.
New Castle County Police were flagged down Friday night by the friend of Andrew Forrester, of the 100 block of Summer Drive in Smyrna, in the area of Kiamensi Road in Wilmington due to Forrester having sustained a gunshot wound to his foot. At that time, police said Forrester was in the back seat of his friend's vehicle and was being transported to the hospital. The suspect was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for his injury and released.
Police said during the investigation, investigators received varying accounts as to how Forrester sustained his gunshot wound. Police were eventually able to confirm that Forrester had accidently shot himself with the handgun as he was entering one of the buildings at Red Clay Creek Apartments. The subject allegedly had his finger on the trigger of a .40 caliber handgun as the gun was in his waistband.
Forrester was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was arraigned and released on $4,000 unsecured bail.
