A group of three local teenagers, known as Zero Waste Team, won the Christopher Columbus Awards in Orlando June 13.

The team tackled the challenge of Delaware's rapidly filling landfills. The group focused on curbside composting.

As champions, the team was given the Christopher Columbus Foundation Grant of $25,000 to fund their project for another year.

Team organizer, Martine Long, said the team is ecstatic and have been grinning ear to ear.
