An attempted robbery occurred early Thursday morning at the McDonald's at 2702 Philadelphia Pike, Delaware State Police said.

An attempted robbery occurred early Thursday morning at the McDonald's at 2702 Philadelphia Pike, Delaware State Police said.

The incident occurred at 12:47 a.m. as a female McDonald's employee was exiting the restaurant, State Police Cpl. John Day said. As she exited, she encountered a masked black male suspect, who was entering while holding a handgun. After almost walking into the employee, the suspect immediately fled, he said.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6-foot tall with an average build, wearing dark clothing and a mask, Day said. No further physical or clothing description was available.

He was armed with a handgun.
