Delaware State Police troopers are conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered washed ashore along the Delaware River in New Castle County Tuesday evening.
The body that washed ashore along the Delaware River at Finn's Point in New Castle County has been identified as belonging to a 49-year-old man from Franklinville, N.J.
At approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday, a person walking along Finn's Point on the eastern shore of the Delaware River discovered a body, State Police Cpl. John Day said. Members of the Pennsville (N.J.) Police Department responded to the scene, and determined that the body was in a section of Finn's Point in Delaware, he said.
At that point, Delaware State Police troopers began conducting a death investigation, Day said.
In addition, an investigation by the Delaware River and Bay Authority Police Department determined that the man had jumped from the Delaware Memorial Bridge on Jan. 20, 2013, Day said.
The body was removed from the scene and turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
