Middletown scored 12 runs in the first inning, then went on to defeat Delcastle 15-5 in softball action Monday afternoon
The Middletown softball team exploded for one dozen runs in the first inning, then went on to defeat host Delcastle Technical HS 15-5 Monday afternoon.There were a lot of batting heroines for the Lady Cavaliers as Brooke Banks, Becca Alexander, Nina Marcano, Brittany Firlein, and Alissa Marchione each had two hits on the beautiful, sunny afternoon. In all, the Cavaliers pounded out a total of 14 hits, all against Delcastle starter Nicole Bader, who pitched a complete game for her team.
Middletown added one run in the second and third innings, then pushed the score to the ten-run limit with another run in the top of the sixth.The seventh inning was not played.
Delcastle chased Cavalier starter Madison Cook with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Erin Spinden had a good day for the Lady Cougars, going 2 for 4 at the plate, including a triple.Delcastletotaled seven hits for the game, but committed three errors. Cook picked up her second mound victory of the season against only one loss.
The Lady Cougars are now 0-4 on the season, and are giving up about 18 runs per game defensively. They play Delaware Military Academy Thursday at home at 3:45 p.m., then, they play at Charter School on Friday also at 3:45 p.m. The Lady Cavaliers are now 2-1 on the young season. They had a game Wednesday at home against Blue Hen Conference for Newark on Wednesday, and they will host Charter School on Tuesday, April16, starting at 4 p.m.
