  • The 22nd Annual Christina River Watershed Cleanup is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 6 at 12 sites along the Christina River and its tributaries in northern New Castle County.
Since the Cleanup began in 1992, more than 330 tons of tires, appliances, household items, and uncountable pieces of plastic and Styrofoam have been cleared from the Christina River, White Clay Creek, Red Clay Creek and various other tributaries Upwards of 12,000 volunteers have found filling trash bags in Churchmans Marsh, White Clay Creek State Park, the City of Wilmington, and various other locations to be extremely rewarding.
Please go to http://www.christinarivercleanup.org/ to view where to report and how to sign up. Walk ups are also welcome.
The Christina River Watershed provides 75 percent of the public water supply for residents and businesses in New Castle County. A solid effort is needed annually to improve wildlife habitat and keep each of these waterways as free from debris as possible.
The Christina River Watershed Cleanup is an opportunity for community volunteers of all ages to help improve the health and water quality of the river and its tributaries as well as beautify Delaware's landscape and raise public awareness on the importance of disposing of trash properly.
