Delaware State Police troopers arrested a New Castle man Friday for the March 24 robbery of the Wawa at 531 East Basin Road.
The crime occurred at 1:51 a.m. on March 24, when a white male suspect wearing a mask entered the store, State Police Cpl. John Day said. He kept one hand in his jacket pocket and used the other to gesture towards the cash register.
A store employee removed cash from the register and turned it over to the suspect, who fled on foot, Day said.
Shortly after the robbery, Troop 2 robbery detectives received information about the robber's identity from the New Castle County Police Department's Safe Streets Unit, he said. On March 29, detectives, assisted by two New Castle County Police Department canines, executed a search warrant on the New Castle residence of Richard Fox, 44.
A canine located Fox hiding in the basement, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Fox was charged with robbery second degree and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $15,000 secured bail.
